Jerry Kaplan

Serial entrepreneur, Jerry Kaplan has forged a successful career as a computer scientist and futurist. The founder of several businesses, Jerry has been revolutionary in artificial intelligence and digital disruption, pioneering the development of tablet computers and pen computing. Throughout his career Jerry has forged a reputation as a serial businessman, co-founding OnSale and Teknowledge and founding Go Corporation and Winster Inc. From pioneering pen computer technology to online auctions, Jerry’s companies found him great success and have acted as precursors to technology such as the Apple iPad. Jerry is also a Fellow at the Stanford Centre for Legal Informatics and has authored the books Startup: A Silicon Valley Adventure, Artificial Intelligence: What Everyone Needs to Know and more.

In the early days of his career, Jerry attended the University of Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy of Science. After his graduation he went on to do further studies at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating once more with a Doctorate in Computer and Information Science. During his studies, Jerry began to make his impact in the technology industry when he wrote software for the Synergy, a keyboard instrument that was the first all-digital version of its kind. Impressing with his knowledge of technology and artificial intelligence, Jerry was later recruited to join Stanford University in their computer science department as a research associate.

Jerry founded his first company back in 1981, Teknowledge, and from that point on has been a revolutionary figure in the fields of artificial intelligence and emerging technology. He has also worked in development and design for the Lotus Development Corporation and founded the online auction site OnSale before eBay was even a concept, selling items from Dell, Sony, Packard-Bell and Apple. Jerry has also been featured in publications such as Bloomberg Businessweek, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He is also the author of the book Humans Need Not Apply: A Guide to Wealth and Work in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, and has claimed recognition as one of the Top Ten Business Books of the Year by Businessweek.
