Jane Green is a public communicator and academic who specialises in British politics, elections (US and US), public opinion, and explaining public attitudes.
She is an award-winning public communicator and member of the ITV News elections team, which has twice been nominated for BAFTA awards for its election night programmes. She gives keynotes and speeches on understanding the electorate and elections (UK and US) and is known for her accessible, ‘human’, compelling, and warm style.
The Evening Standard said, “Professor Jane Green can make statistics seem human and fascinating, in a way that completely eludes other experts” (9th June 2017).
Jane is based at Nuffield College, Oxford (an exemplar in the social sciences), where she is a Director of the Nuffield Politics Research Centre and a Co-Director of the gold-standard British Election Study—Britain’s longest-running social science survey. She is also a Professor and Senior Research Fellow at Oxford’s Politics and International Relations Department.
She is the recently elected President of the British Polling Council - an association of polling organisations that publish polls and are committed to promoting transparency in polling.
Since 2015, Jane has been an ITV News election expert, presenting data, discussing results and their meaning, and leading in interpreting US elections. She has been on-screen throughout the overnight programmes for the 2015, 2017, and 2019 UK general elections, the 2016 EU referendum, and the 2016, 2020 and 2024 UK and US elections.
She is a regular commentator across national media, appearing on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Newsnight, The Today Programme, and the Today podcast, regularly on BBC Radio 4’s Start the Week, The World At One, PM and Westminster Hour, and providing countless interviews across BBC national radio, Times Radio, etc., in print, and leading podcasts. She has had a speaking role at the Blue Dot Festival and the Cheltenham Science Festival in 2024 on a panel chaired by Dara Ó Briain.
Jane is the author of election books and numerous academic articles. In 2023, she received the international honour of being elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in the US. She is also a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Social Sciences and has additional academic affiliations in the US and UK.
