Olympic speaker and British ParalympianIan Rose shot to fame in 1995 when he became the Judo World Champion. Since the historic moment, Ian has gone on to take part in no less than five Paralympic tournaments and tour the globe as a motivational sports speaker.
Contracting eye cancer whilst still an infant Ian Rose grew up with limited vision and notable physical scarring following a number of operations and procedures which, included removing his left eye entirely. Dogged by bullies throughout childhood Ian has explained at after dinner speaker events how taking up Judo not only helped him significantly improve his self-confidence but also helped to alleviate the stigmas and prejudices of his disability.
As a judo competitor and champion for over two decades, Ian has a collection of prestigious trophies. Some of his most impressive achievements include being the four-times European Champion, competing in five Paralympic Games, gaining a bronze medal in 1996 and a silver medal in 2004. In addition, Ian won two bronze awards in the Judo World Championships, proving his dominance in the sport.
Now retired from competing professionally Ian Rose is a dedicated Olympic speaker, he has toured the UK working as a sports speaker to encourage young people, both able-bodied and disabled, to take up Judo and other sports. Having made numerous school visits and speeches he is flexible and adapts his content to the teaching aims of the school, working with pupils from ages five to eighteen. The main message Ian conveys in his work with young people is to become the best version of themselves, be accepting of others and never be held back.
As an after dinner speaker, Ian discusses the ups and downs of his career. The extremely personal nature of Ian’s work as an Olympic speaker make his speeches all the more moving and inspiring, his dedication to the sport, which he freely admits did not come naturally to him at first, shows not only his determination but personal passion and serves to highlight his personal strength. An inspiration to everyone he meets, Ian is a fantastic speaker for all audiences.
