Former professional football player Ian Marshall is best known for playing in the Premier League and has played for teams such as Oldham Athletic, Bolton Wanderers, Leicester City and Ipswich Town. Ian retired from football in the early 2000’s and has since gone on to work as a dedicated sports speaker appearing at sporting events and touring on the after dinner speaker circuit.
Ian initially found his love for football with his hometown club Everton, starting his career with them as an apprentice. Ian made his name as a player there, which lead to him joining Oldham Athletic in 1988. He joined Oldham as part of a £200,000 deal and remained with the team for five years. With the team Ian scored an impressive 50 goals in less than 200 appearances, making him a player to watch. Ian later moved to the Premier League during 1993, leaving Oldham for Ipswich Town for £700,000. Here he improved on his previous performance by scoring 36 goals in only 90 appearances. He scored five times during his first five games, a feat which has not been repeated since.
After playing with Ipswich Town, Ian was sold to Leicester City for £800,000 in 1996. Playing for Leicester for four seasons, Ian made an impressive 26 goals in just 61 games. At the 2000 League Cup Ian had the chance to play for Leicester, with the team claiming the title. Ian later went on a free transfer to Bolton football club, going on to help them to reach the Premier League.
Marshall’s success continued and in 2002 he captained Blackpool to victory in the LDV Vans Trophy against Cambridge. After this win Ian Marshall chose to leave his life as a striker behind and has since gone on to work as a specialist sports speaker appearing at events for many of his previous clubs as well as after dinner speaker functions for the Football League and the Premier League.
Ian has also relocated to the United States, taking up the responsibility of running his own academy- the Ian Marshall Soccer Academy. With his varied history in football, Ian is the perfect addition to your next event to deliver both interesting and knowledgeable stories to audiences of any size.
