Helena Rowland is a professional Rugby player for England Women and Loughborough Lightning. Having played an integral role in the Rugby World Cup win in 2025, Helena is now looking to share her incredible story and experiences with a multitude of audiences, hoping to inspire women and girls to have the confidence to thrive within male-dominated spaces.
Beginning her rugby career at the young age of six, Helena found her love for the sport whilst at Aylesbury RFC before playing at both Tring and Bicester RFC. Working hard and rising through the ranks with grit and determination, Helena won the Tyrells Premiership title in 2018 with the formidable Saracens. Following this feat, she moved to her current team, Loughborough Lightning and began studying for her BSc in Sports Science from Loughborough University. Helena made her England Rugby debut in 2020, winning her first Six Nations Grand Slam, and competing at the 7s World Series, an achievement that would help Great Britain qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. The following year, her team placed fourth at Tokyo and secured a full-time contract with the Red Roses. With another Six Nations win under her belt, Helena would go on to add to her tally by winning another four times. In 2022, Helena was a silver medallist at the rugby world cup before becoming England Vice Captain the following year. In 2024, she won the WXV Championships, only to be followed by a spectacular Rugby World Cup win in 2025.
Labelled as ‘Miss Versatility’ by England Women’s Rugby’s coach, John Mitchell, Helena has played a variety of positions, including fullback, flyhalf, and centre, becoming the key to the team’s amazing success. She has been featured in The Times and a multitude of other media, covering the journey of the Red Roses and Helena’s fundamental role within the team's performance.
With a wealth of stories from on and off the pitch, Helena understands the importance of peak performance under extreme pressure, the psychology of the winning mindset, not only thriving but excelling in a male-dominated environment, and challenging hard-set perceptions. Her impressive feats and dominating presence within the sport make her a fantastic addition to a multitude of sporting functions, motivational events, and especially International Women’s Day engagements.

"Helena spoke in an informative and inspiring way, captivating the interest of her Year 8 audience. She drew on her considerable personal experience and illustrious career to date as an International Rugby player, to make parallels between sporting involvement and personal development that transcend all areas of life. She encouraged the students to reflect on the importance of teamwork, perseverance and collaboration and to seize all opportunities they are exposed to. The multitude of questions that the students had for Helena at the end of her talk showed that the topics covered had really penetrated their young minds and included areas such as dealing with injury and setbacks, self-esteem, persevering against the odds and standing up for your beliefs and values. Helena was highly relatable and kind and gentle in approach." - Liz, Assistant Headteacher, Sheffield High School for Girls
“It was brilliant to have Helena at the Barnes RFC Annual City Lunch recently. Helena worked really well with our other panellists. She provided a very enthusiastic and polished performance as one of England’s brightest rugby talents. It was a joy to welcome her into the Barnes family, and it was pretty amazing for a room of 500 to rise as one and celebrate her talent." - Michael, Pink Rhino Consulting
