Dr Faye Kirkland is a freelance broadcast journalist and has been a doctor for more than a decade. She continues to work as a general practitioner in London and uses her background knowledge to investigate topics, recent pieces include; transgender care for children and adolescents, poor forensics in sexual assault referral centres, deaths in police custody, concerns over online prescribing, and leaked A&E winter performance figures for England.
She has reported for Panorama, Newsnight, BBC Breakfast, BBC News, the Victoria Derbyshire programme, BBC Radio 4, BBC 5 Live and the Guardian. Dr Kirkland's ground-breaking investigations have led to parliamentary questions in the House of Commons, sparked national and local inquiries into healthcare and made long term changes to UK healthcare regulations.
Dr Kirkland was named freelance journalist of the year in the 2018 Medical Journalists’ Association awards. In 2016, she won best newcomer in the Association of British Science Writers' awards, as well as being a finalist for best investigative journalism. In 2017, she was a highly commended finalist for freelance journalist of the year and in 2015 a highly commended finalist for national broadcast journalist of the year in the Medical Journalists' Association Awards. She was a previous mentee of the John Schofield Trust.
