Ellen Ochoa, the first female Hispanic astronaut, etched her name as one of the most inspiring people in the world. Having spent a magnificent 41 days in space, she accomplished each mission objective she set out to achieve during four Space Shuttle flights. A veteran figure in aerospace operations and management, Ellen is now available to speak at a wide range of events where she offers insight into her illustrious career.
Ellen’s educational accomplishments are only predecessors to her career accomplishments – she possesses a BS in Physics from San Diego State University, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. She started her career as a Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories and was a co-inventor on 2 patents for hybrid optical/digital image processing systems in her time there.
Ellen’s association with NASA began as a Branch Chief for the NASA Research Centre, and she then embarked on her journey as an astronaut. Her incredible work in this regard has led to her being the subject of and featured in several books. As the 11th Director of NASA’s Johnson Space Centre, she was able to advance human spaceflight through her transformational change management expertise. Ellen has been inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. She is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the National Academy of Inventors and the Optical Society of America.
On the Board of Directors for Mutual of America and Service Corporation International, both of which are Fortune 1000 companies, Ellen is also a Member of the Board of Directors at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and SRI International.
