Elinor Barker MBE is a UCI Women’s Team cyclist who has spent her career wowing sports fanatics with her outstanding level of skill and determination. A 2016 Olympic gold medallist in the Team Pursuit, a five-time world champion, a seven-time European champion, and the first Welsh track cyclist to earn gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games’ points race in almost 30 years, she’s become a beloved face in the cycling scene. Elinor is a woman associated with success, and it’s easy to see why. For over a decade, she’s been competing at the highest levels, coming away with a fresh perspective on victory each and every time.
Beginning her journey in Cardiff, Elinor amusingly used cycling as a way to escape going swimming. At age 10, she was already cycling with Maindy Flyers, and she quickly started to ascend through the ranks upon joining the British Cycling’s Olympic Development Academy. During this time, Elinor would make her debut as a junior to watch out for – her win in the 2012 World Junior Time Trial Championship proved that she had what it took to excel at an astonishing rate. From there, she only continued to flourish, quickly establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with in the senior cycling space. Now an accomplished Olympic athlete, Elinor continues to demonstrate the power of passion and the value of teamwork with each race.
Whether she’s participating in World Championships, European Championships, or the Olympic Games, Elinor is a familiar face that audiences have come to expect showstopping cycling from. Her ability to seamlessly transition between Team Pursuits, Madison, and Elimination races is a cornerstone of her talent pool; from one moment to the next, she’s tackling cycling from an entirely new angle, all while upholding a sensational level of skill. From securing victory at events such as Rás na mBan and the British National Championships, to receiving recognition for her services to cycling in the form of an MBE, Elinor has amassed a fantastic reputation that allows her to uplift others aspiring to one day compete in high bracket cycling.
Elinor truly is an incredible woman. Between her ongoing battle with endometriosis and her astonishing 2020 Tokyo Olympics Team Pursuit silver medal win – a feat she accomplished while pregnant, no less – she’s become a figurehead of empowerment for women and girls across the sporting scene.
