Comedian and actress, Elaine C. Smith is one of the best Scottish performers on the comedy circuit. Theatre, television and published columns, Smith has used her vast reach in the media to campaign on politics and prominent issues, which has further increased her popularity amongst the public. As a comedian, Elaine Smith has appeared on some of Scotland’s best loved comedy programmes. After rising to fame on ‘Laugh??? I Nearly Paid My Licence Fee’ which received a hugely positive response and was consequently shown on BBC 2 across the UK, Smith gained her iconic alter ego on the BBC sitcom ‘Naked Video’. On the show, Smith played the slapstick comedy character of Mary ‘Mary Doll’ Nesbitt, which she became synonymous with and a subsequent spin off series based on Smith’s character was commissioned ‘Rab C. Nesbitt’.

Often Elaine Smith has combined her training as an actress and natural comic abilities, for stage productions such as: 12 Nights of Christmas, The Steamie, and a UK tour of Calendar Girls. However, proving her versatility as a performer, Smith has more recently become known for her impressive performances in non-comic theatre roles as was evident when she took to the stage as singer Susan Boyle in ‘I Dreamed a Dream’. In 2016 she starred in the infamous musical, Annie, and toured Scotland with the production.

Using the platform she has gained as a talented performer, Elaine shares political views and campaigns for important issues. Primarily advocating for Scottish independence, Smith has been a key campaigner and voice on the topic as well as writing on politics in a weekly column for the Sunday Mail. Concerned with social responsibility, Smith is also an active supporter of Zero Tolerance and Relationships which works to prevent domestic violence and is a patron of Celtic FC Women and Girls programmes.
