David Strettle is a former England Rugby Union star, who played for several top clubs most notably Saracens where he won three Premiership Rugby titles and a European Rugby Champions Cup. As well as staring at club level he played 14 times for his country and made history in 2006, scoring a record five first-half tries for England’s Sevens side against Papua New Guinea. Away from Rugby he holds a Sports Science Degree from Sheffield Hallam University and had football trials at some of the country’s biggest football clubs, including Liverpool. Given a sporting career that spanned 17 years, 339 appearances for club and country with well over 100 tries, David would make the perfect speaker for any sporting audience with plenty of stories to tell from his time at some of Rugby’s biggest clubs.
He started his professional sporting career with Rotherham Titans before a move to Harlequins. He quickly showed his prominence and was named Professional Rugby Players Association 2007 Young Player of the Season as well as making his England debut scoring against Ireland. The then 24-year-old was also named in Sky Sports’ Dream Team for the 2006-07 season. In 2010 he moved to Saracens for the first time, helping the club win the 2011 and 2015 Premiership finals, before moving to French side Clermont Auvergne.
While in central France, the winger continued to show his quality helping the club win the Top 14 title, its first in seven years, as well as finishing as the club’s leading try-scorer in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons. After a three-year spell at Clermont, he returned to North London to play for Saracens. Although this spell at Allianz Park was shorter than the first it was still successful, as he helped the club win the 2018/19 Premiership Rugby title and the European Rugby Champions Cup before retiring from the sport shortly after.
Now booked as a speaker following his retirement, David is the perfect guest for any rugby audience, having been inside some of the sport’s biggest clubs as well as the England set up. He has also displayed great mental resilience throughout his career, returning to peak performance after injury on several occasions. When looking for a leading sports speaker to appear at your event, don’t hesitate in booking David Strettle, who will share anecdotes from his highly successful career and inspire all in attendance.
