David McWilliams is an author and journalist who is well known for being the only economist in Ireland to accurately forecast the 2008 Global Crash, the UK Brexit vote and Trump’s victory. An incredibly well-respected economist, he frequently travels all over the world combing his vast knowledge of economics with his sense of humour, to deliver presentations on the most relevant global trends in growth, currencies, geopolitics, and the financial markets. His ability to convey complex economic topics and make them applicable to his audience makes him a highly sought after speaker on the international stage and a frequent contributor to Google’s renowned Zeitgeist conference.
As an Economics graduate from Trinity College Ireland, David has held several notable roles early on in his career, working as an Economist with the Irish Central Bank, and then spending time as the Chief European Economist at UBS. Later, David became Head of Emerging Markets Research at Banque Nationale de Paris. Furthermore, he currently holds the role of Adjunct Professor of Global Economics at Trinity College Dublin. Well known for his strong presence on social media, David was named Ireland’s most influential Twitter user and he was ranked the third most followed economist in the world.
Possessing an exceptional ability to accurately forecast future events, he was the first economist to identify the Irish boom as a credit bubble, warning of its imminent collapse. It is, therefore, no surprise that became a Young Global Leader with the World Economic Forum and ranks 10 among the most influential economist in the world. Putting his comprehensive knowledge to good use, he is the host of The David McWilliams Podcast, a bestselling author of four books and has presented award-winning documentaries. Moreover, he frequently contributes to the Financial Times and writes a weekly economics column for The Irish Times.
Showcasing his playful sides, David is the co-founder of Kilkenomics, the world’s only economic festival in Europe which combines comedy with economics. In addition, he is the creator of a series of very popular animated videos, Punk Economics and recently launched an online economics course. David McWilliams is a profoundly talented economist who has displayed extraordinary insight in accurately forecasting several major events, often being the first and only economist to make those predictions. His ability to simplistically explain highly complex topics, humorously, makes his presentations both informative and entertaining, as such, he is an exceptional speaker to book.
