David Ginola is a retired French footballer who is one of the most recognisable faces in football history. Enjoying a career that spanned over 17 years, Ginola played 503 times domestically scoring 81 goals and played for France 17 times, scoring 3 goals. Since retiring, Ginola has spent time as an actor, model and football pundit showing he is an extremely versatile and talented man. Ginola spent the early part of his career in the French leagues playing predominantly for Toulon, but also enjoyed successful stints at RC Paris and Brest.
In his first full season with RC Paris, Ginola helped guide the club to domestic success in which they won the Coup De France and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup. After this season, Ginola was voted the French Footballer of the Year, just one season later and RC Paris were winning the league and Ginola ended that season as the top scorer. Ginola won a number of domestic titles during his time at RC Paris and this was where his career really started to kickstart, he eventually moved to Newcastle United for £2.5 million in 1995.
In Ginola’s second season at Newcastle United, he helped guide the club to second place in the league, this was their best performance for years and Ginola played an influential role throughout the season. After a couple of fantastic years at Newcastle, Ginola moved to Tottenham Hotspur. He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and also the FWA Footballer of the Year in 1999 after performing sensationally for Spurs. He guided Spurs to the Legaue Cup title in 1999 after a 1-0 win against Leicester City.
After a successful stint at Spurs, Ginola moved to Leicester before ending his career at Everton, he went on to retire after being released from Everton in 2002. Ginola enjoyed a magnificent career and built a legacy for French footballers to build upon, his career in sport hasn’t ended there though as he has regularly featured as a sports pundit. Ginola is often seen as a pundit on BT Sport and BBC Sport, he has a strong character to get with his impeccable footballing knowledge, this makes him a fantastic pundit who is well respected across the world.
