Daniel O'Shaughnessy is a pioneering speaker, specialising in body image, mental well-being and LGBTQ+ health. Drawing on his own lived experience, research and practical wellbeing strategies, he explores topics such as body dysmorphia, perfectionism and self-esteem. Committed to helping people build healthier relationships with their bodies, Daniel regularly speaks at events and conferences, sharing insights on self-understanding, trauma and identity. His talks encourage audiences to approach wellbeing with greater compassion, awareness and self-acceptance, making him a fantastic choice for conferences, workshops and forums.
Daniel graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2002 with a degree in Criminal Justice and Law, and began working as a senior DIP liaison worker at Blenheim CDP in 2011. From there, Daniel founded The Naked Nutritionist in 2012, using the platform to share the strategies and insights that had helped him navigate his own experiences with body image and perfectionism. In 2013, Daniel co-founded a wellness retreat called Bodhimaya, which would go on to win the Condé Nast Spa Award for Best Bespoke Overhaul and the Tatler Spa Award. In 2019, Daniel became a certified practitioner from The Institute for Functional Medicine and developed his clinical understanding of mental and physical health. With both personal experience and academic grounding, Daniel regularly writes about different aspects of LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing through essays and his published books. His first book, 'Letting Go of Perfect: A Gay Man’s Guide to Healing from Body Dysmorphia', intimately explored topics of body image, shame and the patterns of control that often accompany them. His second book, 'The Queer Guide to Nutrition & Lifestyle', covered an array of topics, including HIV, long-term health, relationships and addiction.
Daniel shares further information and guidance through his podcasting work, setting up the 'Naked Nutrition' podcast in 2020, and later the 'Lessons from Psychedelics' podcast in 2024. In 2026, he launched his 8-week 'Letting Go of Perfect' course, designed to support gay and bisexual men in building healthier, more compassionate relationships with themselves and their bodies. Daniel also offers a health strategy session, where he provides a 90-minute strategic review of his clients' current health and behaviour. Daniel frequently travels to speak at industry events and conferences, and was invited by GiffGaff to deliver a talk on epigenetics in 2019. In 2025, he appeared on BBC One's 'The One Show', where he discussed anabolic steroids and body dysmorphia. Additionally, Daniel has been featured in magazines such as The Sunday Times, Tatler, Vogue and GQ, to name just a few.
Daniel O'Shaughnessy’s work integrates physiology, psychology and lived experience to develop innovative approaches to mental health, body image and wellbeing. Official Feedback From In-Person & Virtual Events:
“I invited Daniel to speak at our corporate retreats because our clients need wisdom that is practical, clear, and deeply human. Daniel has a rare gift for taking complex ideas about health, identity, stress, and healing and presenting them in a way that is easy to understand and immediately applicable. His talks combine evidence-informed frameworks with lived experience, so the material feels grounded and real, not abstract or esoteric. Daniel makes healing accessible for audiences who typically expect business language and logic, and he consistently receives the highest praise from participants for changing how they think about wellbeing, resilience, and the connection between mind and body. I recommend him without reservation for any corporate event where you want insight that feels both intelligent and deeply human.” - Dr Miguel Toribio-Mateas, Clinical Neuroscientist and Workplace Wellbeing Consultant
