TV presenter and sports commentator Dan Walker has maintained a long standing relationship with football, a passionate and competent player Walker turned down the chance to play youth team football choosing instead to attend university and study journalism. Now an accomplished broadcaster, reporter, radio and TV presenter Walker’s interest in football remains strong. Best known for his role as the TV presenter for BBC One’s Saturday football preview show Football Focus, Walker began his professional broadcasting career on local commercial radio and made a name for himself as the match day commentator for Manchester’s Key 103K radio station. Since then Walker has worked prolifically across the BBC, regularly reporting for Match of the Day, and co-hosting 5 Lives’ Afternoon Edition; where he demonstrates that his oeuvre extends beyond sports, reporting on the latest in politics, current affairs and entertainment.
In his capacity as a radio and television presenter for the BBC Dan Walker has reported on some of the biggest sporting events in the UK, including Wimbledon, Aintree, Royal Ascot and The Derby, as well as the Rugby 6 Nations. Walker’s personal passion remains with football however and he has been called upon to cover numerous national and international footballing events and major matches during his tenure at the BBC, including the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. He also co-hosts the broadcaster’s Open golf coverage and was an integral part of the 2012 Olympics coverage team.
Alongside his work as a sports TV presenter Dan Walker has also appeared on Songs of Praise, Countdown, Celebrity Mastermind and A Question of Sport. Walker is frequently commended for his passionate and engaging reports and his love of sport and football has helped to make his segment on BBC World one of the most popular on the international channel.
