Leading Olympic speaker and qualified coach, Charlotte Evans is probably best known as the sighted guide for the visually impaired Paralympic gold medallist Kelly Gallagher. Holding hopes of becoming a professional athlete and Olympic speaker in her own right Charlotte Evans became part of the England Alpine Ski Team and English overall champion aged just 18. Unfortunately, an injury sustained whilst competing at the British Championships forced Charlotte into retirement and into rehabilitation. After snapping a cruciate ligament Evans began qualifying as a coach and was already working as a sports speaker and trainer when she was asked to consider becoming a sighted guide.
It was while working as a coach at an Alpine Skiing Training Camp in Hintertux in 2010 that she was approached by Gallagher. Despite only having worked together for five short weeks the pair quickly became a force to be reckoned with when, in 2011, Charlotte Evans made her international debut, helping Kelly become the first ever British athlete to win a World Championship medal during the IPC World Championships where she took a silver medal in the slalom and bronze in the giant slalom.
Building on the success of the previous three years, which alongside the 2011 IPC medals included four further medals from five events at the 2013 IPC World Championships and a gold medal at the 2013 World Cup Final in Sochi, Russia, Charlotte Evans and Kelly achieved their greatest victory to date when they returned to Sochi to take part in their first Paralympic Games in early 2014. Garnering a gold medal in the visually impaired Super-G competition, Charlotte Evans helped Gallagher become the first British athlete to win a medal at the Winter Paralympic Games and it is thanks to Charlotte's support and work as a sighted guide that Kelly Gallagher has become one of the most well respected Olympic speakers in Northern Ireland. The pair have an incredibly strong bond and continue to work together as both athletes and sports speakers, appearing at events and competing across the globe.
