Brian Uridge

Brian Uridge is a nationally recognised keynote speaker on healthcare security, public safety leadership, and workplace violence prevention. A former command-level public safety professional, Brian now serves as Senior Director at University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security and Director at Michigan Medicine Security, shaping enterprise-wide strategy for safety, threat management, and staff assurance across a major academic health system. His biggest achievement is leading large-scale, measurable security transformation in complex hospital environments, translating frontline realities into repeatable systems that protect patients, staff, and visitors.

Brian’s early career was forged in Kalamazoo, Michigan, within a demanding integrated public safety model that combined policing, fire services, and emergency medical response. Joining the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety in 1990, Brian built a reputation for calm decision-making under pressure and a practical, people-first approach to risk. Alongside operational experience, he invested in formal education, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at Ferris State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Western Michigan University. Advanced executive development followed, including the FBI National Academy and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, formative experiences that strengthened Brian’s leadership philosophy, clear communication style, and commitment to service.

Over more than three decades, Brian has held senior posts across public safety and healthcare security. Rising through the ranks to Assistant Chief of Operations, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, he led investigations, narcotics operations, and major operational units, while overseeing large teams and complex budgets. He also served 18 years on SWAT, including seven years as SWAT Commander, managing hundreds of high-risk operations and critical incidents. In healthcare, Brian became Director of Security Services at Spectrum Health, leading a large system-wide function and driving initiatives such as clinical scenario-based safety training delivered at scale and an innovative dual-purpose K-9 programme. He later served as Director of Healthcare Safety and Security Programs at Compliance One Group, before joining the University of Michigan in 2018. Today, Brian leads policy development, regional integration, protective investigations, behavioural threat assessment oversight, and clinical workplace violence prevention training, while overseeing hundreds of security, guest services, and law enforcement professionals. His professional standing is reinforced by CPP, CHPA, and CTM credentials, and recognition including the Kalamazoo Public Safety Medal of Valor, Life Saving Award, Chiefs Award of Excellence, and multiple Professional Excellence awards.
