Beth Healey is a doctor by profession who has dedicated much of her time to offering medical and logistical support in extreme, remote conditions. As a former Research MD for the European Space Agency, she spent an entire winter in Antarctica, in a spaceflight analogue called Concordia. As a speaker, Beth is accustomed to speaking on topics related to coping with isolation, peak performance, climate change and technology.
Academically gifted, Beth possesses a BSc in Physiology and an MBBS degree from the University of Bristol. She has also completed courses from institutions such as the International Space University, King’s College London, and Universite Paris Cite. Throughout her career, Beth has worked with leading medical institutions including positions such as an Anaesthetics Doctor and Intensive Care Doctor at the NHS, Head of Clinic at the Hopital du Valais and a Sports Medicine Physician at the Hopital de la Providence.
With a strong inclination towards adventure and exploration, Beth has combined her skills in the medical field with her penchant to work in extreme conditions. She has been an Expedition Doctor for National Geographic, part of the Medical Support Team at the North Pole Marathon and currently provides her expertise as a Medical Advisor on Space Medicine at the Blue Abyss. In her stint at the European Space Agency, her research revolved around the effects of isolation and extreme environments on physiology and psychology of crew members.
A prominent contributor to the Space and Global Health UN Specialist Interest group, Beth has studied how space derived technology can be applied to fix pressing medical challenges. As a speaker, Beth offers a unique insight into topics such as high-performance, technology’s role in the field of medicine and the effects of climate change.
