Combining technical expertise with real-world policy insight, Anka captivates audiences with her ability to translate complex AI topics into compelling narratives. She is best known as Vice Chair of the EU’s first General-Purpose AI Code of Practice, a landmark initiative shaping the future of responsible AI across Europe. A sought-after voice on the global stage, she most recently served as Lead Researcher for the Responsible AI chapter of Stanford’s AI Index and moderated high-level international discussions at the 2024 AI for Good Summit, engaging with over 50 ministers on global AI governance.
Anka’s path to becoming a leading figure in AI was shaped by a remarkable personal and academic journey. Having overcome a challenging childhood and becoming the first in her family to pursue higher education, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Economic Sciences at just 15, parallel to completing secondary school. This early commitment to learning led her to study at some of the world’s top institutions, including the London School of Economics and the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned an M.S. in Computer Science with a near-perfect GPA. It was during her studies at UPenn that Anka became increasingly focused on the ethical implications of AI, sparking her mission to create systems that are not only powerful but principled.
Now pursuing her Ph.D. in Computer Science at Stanford University, Anka conducts cutting-edge research on AI safety and governance at the Stanford Trustworthy AI Research Lab and the Stanford Intelligent Systems Lab. She is also a Geopolitics & Technology Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center, where she brings a unique interdisciplinary lens to issues of AI regulation. Her work has been widely recognised, including a prestigious Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship, and her co-authored paper on technical AI governance was selected as an oral presentation at ICML 2024 – placing it in the top 1.5% of submissions. Anka’s research is frequently cited in leading publications such as The New York Times and The Economist, underscoring her influence across both academic and policy communities.
Audiences are drawn to Anka’s talks not only for her expertise but for her passion, clarity, and bold vision for the future. She speaks on topics including AI safety, international regulation, ethical algorithm design, and AI in public policy, all grounded in a commitment to real-world impact. Whether addressing government officials, corporate leaders, or academic audiences, Anka brings a refreshing blend of intellect and approachability.
