Amnah Ajmal is the Executive Vice President of Market Development at Mastercard. Amnah is known for transforming businesses around the world using her expertise in redefining consumer experience and innovating products. Named in Forbes Middle East’s 100 Most Powerful Businesswomen in 2024 list, Amnah is one of the most revered figures in the banking and financial services sector. Available to speak at a wide range of events, Amnah is a seasoned keynote speaker who can shed light on topics related to banking, technology, finance, and how women can succeed in these male dominated industries.
Initially Amnah had hoped to work in the FMCG industry but kept facing rejection after rejection. So, with a Master’s in Finance from the London School of Economics, Amnah joined Citi Bank as Management Associate – a role that changed the trajectory of her illustrious career. Over her 8 year long tenure with Citi, Amnah was responsible for pivotal positions such as Cards Product & Portfolio Head and Asset Business Head at Citi, working across the world. Her roles at Citi took her to Egypt, the UK, and Poland, taking on responsibility in numerous continents. In 2012, she joined as Strategic Initiatives Head at Standard Chartered Bank, where she was responsible for driving growth strategies based on innovation in Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan.
During her tenure at Standard Chartered, Amnah had been made responsible for restructuring the business, and held prominent positions such as Retail Banking Head and CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Malaysia, earning her the recognition as the youngest-ever head of a consumer bank. However, she yearned for a more creative role and therefore decided to join Mastercard in 2015. Starting as the Consumer & Commercial Payment Head for Mastercard, Amnah assumed her current responsibility as the EVP of Market Development within just 4 years. Today, she leads the P&L segment of the organisation and is known for her innovation and insight in the strategy, M&A and pricing functions.
Respected for her thought leadership, Amnah has been named one of the Top 100 Women in FinTech by Lattice80 and IBM in 2019 and 2021 respectively. She had also been regarded as one of the Top 25 Women Leaders in Financial Technology in the 2019 and 2020 in the Financial Technology Report US. Amnah is the perfect example that women can be at the forefront of any industry, no matter how male-dominated it may be.
