Ama Agbeze MBE is a legendary former England Netballer, Lawyer, broadcaster, and Speaker. She is best known for captaining England to Commonwealth Gold in 2018, a feat viewed by a record 2 million people globally. Labelled as a ‘marvel of the modern netball world’, Ama has played in England, Australia, and New Zealand across five positions with her agile, quick style making her an always dominant force on the court. Having faced many adversities and forced to make sacrifices, Ama did not let this affect her. She is an inspiration to many through both her successful sports career and her work as a lawyer making for a highly inspiring and entertaining speaker.
Beginning her career in 2001 at the age of just 19, Ama earned her first England cap and played for several Super Cup teams including Team Bath, Birmingham Blaze, and the Northumbria Flames. She later moved her netball career to Loughborough University, playing for Loughborough Lightning in the Netball Superleague alongside achieving an MSc in Finance and Management. Ama chose to also study Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Leicester, helping her become a qualified lawyer as she needed to earn a living outside of Netball due to the lack of money within the sport. This further identifies her hard work and resilience in the face of adversity. The best years of her career were spent overseas in Australia and New Zealand where she won the ANZ Championship twice with two different teams and acted as a player-coach for the West Coast Falcons, helping win the Australian Championship and being awarded the Jill McIntosh Medal for being the Fairest & Best player in the League.
Ama had a highly successful England career as she became captain in 2016, playing a key role in winning the 2016 European Netball Championship, 2017 Fast5 Netball World Series and 2018 Commonwealth Games. After making her 100th senior appearance, she received an MBE for her services to Netball. More recently, she has used her vast knowledge of international sport and legal background to act as ambassador, trustee and/ or board member for various organisations and events including SportsAid, the Commonwealth Games organizing committee and Birmingham 2022,
Her rousing speech, motivating the England Netball Team ahead of their Commonwealth final is a clear example of her powerful leadership and speaking abilities. Ama looks to share her experiences of diversity within sport, leadership, psychology and behaviors of a winning team and motivation/ dedication as an events speaker so don’t hesitate to hire Ama Agbeze when looking for an impactful and educational speaker.
