Q: What piece of technology stands out to you the most?
"I'm a big believer in the cloud. As technology becomes more complicated and requires more computing power and more storage, it just makes no sense for, even quite large businesses, to deploy this themselves.”
"And the fact that the tech refresh cycle is now, sometimes months rather than years, this makes no sense whatsoever. So increasingly, the big cloud providers, that's how all services are going to be delivered.”
"What's quite interesting is that [Amazon Web Services], which is part of Amazon, is probably the most valuable part of Amazon. If you split AWS from Amazon, its valuations will be depressed.”
Q: Where do you predict cloud technology will take us in the future?
"The cloud is the way that all technology, essentially software and over the internet, clearly is going to be delivered. That's great for small businesses and entrepreneurs because now there's more and more API's available, there are platforms that can create APIs on the fly.”
"So you cannot connect all of this technology and get it to interact in ways which you could never do before, it would cost too much money. Now you can do it with a few clicks of your mouse. It's powerful, it's enabling.”
Q: Are there any negatives to having more accessible technology?
"The downside in some ways is that everyone can do it. There's more noise out there now. As an entrepreneur, you've got to cut through the noise, because anyone now can set up a company and do some quite clever technical software integrations, but you're still going to focus on not just technologies, what value you're adding, and how you're different."
