One of the wealthiest men on the planet, Larry Ellison is best known as the entrepreneur behind the giant computer company Oracle. After working on a database for the CIA, Larry became interested in computer design which spawned the idea for Oracle. In 1982, Oracle released its first official project, the Oracle database to huge success.
In the early 1990s Larry and Oracle faced financial difficulty and almost faced bankruptcy. However, the company managed to get through these tough times and are now a billion-dollar business. This makes Larry an outstanding after-dinner speaker as he can offer advice and guidance about dealing with setbacks in a corporate environment and how to bounce back.
Larry had a brief spell working with Apple alongside his responsibilities with Oracle but due to his busy schedule had to give the role up. Oracle’s main competitors in the 90’s was the company Informix and the rivalry between the two companies was so intense it made front page news. Oracle won the war between the two companies with Informix being absolved and their CEO ending up in prison.
Oracle then enjoyed years of dominance in the industry which has been put down to the fantastic way Larry has led and organised the company. The company continued to expand and in 2010 purchased the Sun Microsystems computer company and earlier this year they acquired computing business NetSuite. Even after almost four decades of success Larry is still trying to improve and expand Oracle. Larry is a fantastic after-dinner for all corporate events as he knows exactly what it takes to be successful in the business world.
Larry’s exploits away from the computing world include owning the Indian Wells tennis tournament, being a trained pilot and creating a yacht racing team for Oracle which has won two America cups to date.
