Professor of Political Science, Dr Todd Landman is Pro Vice Chancellor of the Social Sciences at the University of Nottingham. Researching, teaching and publishing on development democracy and human rights including interventions to combat contemporary forms of slavery. On the side of his role within the University he is a member of the Rights and Justice Research Priority Area, Fellow of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and Fellow of Globalisation and Economic Policy research centre in the School of Economics.
While at Essex university Todd took on many roles from Deputy Director and Co-Director of the Human Rights Centre, Director of the Centre for Democratic Governance, Director of the Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Todd has produced many publications from reports, books and articles to conference papers, his most popular book is Issues and Methods in Comparative Politics. This book was very highly regarded and sold over fifteen thousand copies and is in its fourth edition. He’s also recognised for his writing in The Guardian, The Conversation, openGlobalRights, Al Jazeera, and other media outlets.
Internationally renowned for his research on the measurement and analysis of human rights he delivers training in over thirty-nine countries. Working with the likes of the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, The Norwegian Human Rights Centre and a huge amount more. Working with a range of governmental and non-governmental organisations he delivers training sessions, evaluations, and capacity building, particularly in the areas of statistics, measurement frameworks and impact assessment.
A world-wide respected public speaker, Todd has spoken at some extremely impressive events from TEDx to NATO Defence College Foundation in Rome on ‘Human Rights in Afghanistan post 2014’ and keynote speaking to the Nordic Foresty Science Conference on ‘Phronesis and Social Science Research Methods’ in Malmo. He has hundreds of speaking events under is belt, others include The California Western Law School on ‘Imminence and Proportionality: The US and UK Response to Terrorism’ and The Association of Federal Prosecutors in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on social mobilization and human rights.
