Ayo Akinwolere

Former Blue Peter Television Presenter

Ayo Akinwolere spent five years as a Blue Peter presenter, and has since gone on to present range of other shows. Most recently, he has become the face of BBC investigative journalism for the West Midlands on Inside Out, having made the leap from children’s television to current affairs.

During his time at Blue Peter, Ayo was nominated for a BAFTA twice; the prestigious Presenter of the Year Children’s BAFTA and Best Factual Programme. He also performed several impressive feats while on Blue Peter, such as an 1100ft Hele jump and broke the record for the deepest location for an open water swim, as he travelled more than 5 miles over the Palau Trench in the Pacific Ocean. Ayo deserves even more credit considering his phobia of deep water and the fact he only learnt to swim 10 weeks before.

Ayo’s repertoire of presenting also includes hosting Queen Elizabeth II for the Blue Peter 50th anniversary celebrations, CBBC’s Safari 8 and the established art show SMART. He also presented several sporting events, such as the London Mini-Marathon and fronted the British Airways stage at the Olympic Park, where he interviewed Olympic stars such as Anthony Joshua. Ayo has also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, The Great Comic Relief Bake Off and Children in Need, and brings his likeable personality to all his engagements.

A keen traveller, Ayo has visited over 120 cities across the world, and has written and produced BBC World’s Travel Show. He has written about many other issues that are close to his heart for The Daily Telegraph and Huffington Post, as well as several articles for the BBC Sport website.
