Susan Smith, known as Sue, is a skilled left sided winger and forward, who has played football for both a club and the England national team. Widely regarded as one of England’s greatest female football players, Sue is also a popular media personality and keynote speaker.

Starting her passion for the sport as a teenager, Sue finally signed a deal with Leeds United in 2002, where she was scouted as a rising star. After a brief stint at Lincoln Ladies for a year, in 2011 Sue signed for Doncaster Rovers Belles and went on to score in her debut match. The FA Women’s Cup match ended on a 2-1 result, and Sue being carried off due to injury, keeping her from playing for the next nine months. Although she hasn’t officially announced retirement, Sue hasn’t played since 2017 after a slue of injuries.

Most famously, Sue represented England on 93 occasions throughout her career, making her one of the most capped English female footballers. Having made her debut as a 17 year old in 1997, Sue went on to gain great praise for her abilities within the team. One of her most memorable moments was during a friendly against Spain in which she scored a hat-trick of impressive goals.

At the top of her game, Sue was recognised for her success on the field with the FA Players’ Player of the Yearaward in 1998. The FA also honored her with the International Player of the Year Award for two seasons in 1998 and 2000. Within her team, she has won the FA Women’s Premier League Cup and the Premier League Northern Division, a huge achievement for the sporting star.

Since stepping away from professional play, Sue has had a successful media career. As a regular contributor to the women’s football section in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Sue shared her opinions on the recent games, she was also asked to commentate on BBC Sport a number of times, due to her knowledge and upbeat personality. As a host, she has appeared as a co-presenter on Quest’s EFL and starred in the Sky1 show ‘Street Striker’ with fellow football legend, Wayne Rooney.
