Martin Chivers


Football speaker and ex-Tottenham Hotspurs player Martin Chivers spent more than twenty years as a professional football player, retiring in the mid 1980’s to become a sports speaker and pundit for the BBC.

Despite his retirement Chivers maintains strong ties with Spurs and White Hart Lane, he is often invited to appear as a guest football speaker at the club and, in 2007, was inducted into Spur’s Hall of Fame. Martin Chivers remains fondly remembered by Tottenham fans; Big Chiv was one of the most important fixtures in both the Spurs team and the national England team during the early 70’s – a powerful player he appeared in every game of the 71/72 season and scored goals is half of them.

In his capacity as a sports speaker Chivers often reminisces about his time at Spurs, remembering both his individual success and the general popularity of the team.

Outside his work as a guest football speaker Chivers also works as a commentator for BBC Radio, taking a step away from sports Chivers has established himself as a businessman, opening hotels and managing football teams in both England and Europe.

In 2008 Chivers released his biography, Big Chiv – My Goals in Life; parodying his role as a striker with the themes of his work as a football speaker, which include personal motivation, meeting expectations and achieving goals.
