Noted as “a risk-taking left-hander”, former English professional cricketer Graeme Fowler “rarely bored anyone with his batting”. Lancashire born and bred, Graeme played for his country on a number of occasions, earning a name for himself thanks to his determined playing style and accurate skills. As a cricket speaker at after-dinner events, he impresses audiences nationwide with his passionate presentations and extensive knowledge of cricketing strategies
Graeme made his first-class cricket debut in 1979, after graduating from the University of Durham. He frequently opened the batting, whether playing for a smaller county or for his country. He even opened alongside cricketing legend, Gehan Mendis, from 1986 to 1983. In 1982, Graeme made his debut Test. From there, he showed no signs of slowing down, playing in over 20 Tests for England. Graeme christened his early career with a double century during his debut game, becoming the first English player in India to do so.
Over the course of his career, Graeme played in 26 One Day International for England and 21 Test matches, with a batting average of 35.32 in his Test career. Graeme played 292 first-class cricket matches and 315 list-a matches and boasts a bowling average of 36.30. Whilst competing in the 1983 World Cup against Pakistan, Graeme earned his highest One Day International with a score of 81 and scored four consecutive half-centuries.
After Graeme left Lancashire, he played instead for Durham. In 1996, he founded the Cricket School of Excellence to coach the academy, training the next generation of cricketing legends. Such players included Andrew Strauss and Robin Martin-Jenkins. Graeme later retired and turned his hand to broadcasting. Thanks to his years of cricket experience, Graeme featured on Test match Sofa and Test Match Special.
As an after-dinner speaker, he is a popular choice for a wide variety of events. From school assemblies and university graduations to business conferences and industry events, Graeme is a speaker in a million. Comical, charismatic and confident on stage, an event featuring Graeme will be a hit with audiences.
