Will Pearson is on a mission to save our oceans, leveraging business to make a real, positive impact as Co-Founder of Ocean Bottle and Ocean Co. Having wanted to work in environmental protection since his school years, he is a highly dedicated advocate. In his talks, Will brings an urgent and motivating message that raises awareness of the concerning increase in plastic production and its pollution across our oceans, the environmental and health impacts of it, and how we can all play our part in reducing the damage.
Will, who grew up in Oslo, is an avid outdoor enthusiast and adventurer, and while travelling the world, he was dismayed upon witnessing all the plastic pollution in our oceans. This travel included working as a Deckhand for Burgess in 2016, maintaining a yacht that was cruising from Malta to the Maldives. Before that, he worked on the sales team at Anton Sport, and held intern roles at K8 Industridesign and Scatec ASA. It was in 2018 that he co-founded Ocean Bottle, straight out of his studies, having just graduated with a Master’s in Management from London Business School, after a first-class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Management from the University of Exeter.
Ocean Bottle exists to reduce the amount of plastic bottle waste in our oceans. Each Ocean Bottle is BPA-free, and every purchase covers the cost to collect 11.4kg of plastic – equal to 1,000 plastic bottles – from oceans around the world. Ocean Bottles is partnered with Plastic Bank, Plastics for Change, and Repurpose Global to make this a reality. Individuals who own an Ocean Bottle can even access the app to join a community of others who are just as passionate about protecting the ocean from plastic, record their refills, track their impact, and locate refill stations. Ocean Bottle is one of the first companies to be a UN sustainable ocean principles signatory, and in 2020, it received the Green Product Award, Red Dot Design Award, and Mayor of London’s Environment Impact Award. Additionally, Will was included on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list of entrepreneurs in 2019.
There is no denying Will’s brilliant impact as the co-founder of such an innovative and transformative project and the inspiration he brings to the community that has formed alongside it. He is also an Ambassador of A Plastic Planet and a Founding Member of The Conduit (Oslo), and has spoken at the Global Innovation Forum in London, as well as starred on the Virgin StartUp Changemakers series.
