Shivani Uberoi’s purpose is to create workplaces where everyone can be themselves and thrive. Her squiggly career saw her going from qualifying as a chartered accountant with PwC to driving gender equality and Inclusion in workplaces and wider society. She is a TEDx speaker, a sought-after DEI expert appearing on podcasts and regularly featured across the media.
Shivani is the founder of 'The Wallflower Academy' a social enterprise which works with organisations to create inclusive cultures through storytelling, masterclasses and coaching.
Her company reinvests profits into charities, including 'Pregnant then Screwed' and Shivani also sits on multiple boards of organisations driving equality for women including 'Agenda Alliance' and 'Careers after Babies'.
She is a popular speaker, panellist, and event host - having appeared in media publications and on TV news channels including Sky Sports News.
Her talks share her personal journey of building a career in a male-dominated culture, insights into her South Asian British heritage and how that shaped her desire to try and fit in, and the challenges that come with parenting and working especially where the child may need additional mental health support.
Her sessions are inspirational yet also practical and she shares how everyone can play their part in creating a culture of allyship and inclusion.
Her TEDx talk titled 'How fitting in will screw you up' was released in 2023 where she shares insights on how we all seek belonging which can lead to covering up in workplaces. She is passionate about inspiring and empowering others to make the world and workplaces more inclusive for everyone.
Her journey into Inclusion began when she pioneered the Business case for driving diversity at Sky in 2012 after witnessing inequalities in the workplace and wider society. Such commitment and success saw Shivani appointed as the Head of Women In Leadership for Sky in 2016 where she led the companies charge for Gender parity across it's 26,000 workforce, and set up two of the companies employee networks - Women@Sky and Multiculture@Sky. Sky won many external awards under her tenure including No 1 most Inclusive employer.
She left Sky in 2021 and qualified as a leadership and executive coach, specialising in neuroscience, which is the study of human behaviour and the brain. She believes to achieve true inclusion we need to inspire and empower people to drive change and neuroscience is at the heart of this.
She is a self confessed ‘people person’ and creates energy and a sense of empowerment in her sessions – with the belief that together we can change the world. She has two daughters and hopes that they grow up in a more inclusive world, and they keep her motivated and committed to her passion and purpose.
Her clients include Comcast, Sky, NBCU Universal, Ocean Infinity and HMCTS. She is also the Inclusion Lead for England Cricket Board.
