Peter Kellner is an award-winning journalist, former BBC Newsnight presenter, political commentator and former president of YouGov, the market research and data analytics firm. He has written for some of the biggest media outlets in the UK and is widely known for his regular TV appearances.
Peter graduated from Kings’ College, University of Cambridge with an MA in Economics and Statistics. He started his career as a business and investigative columnist at the Sunday Times. Following this Peter went on to become the Political Editor of the New Statesman and made regular TV appearances across several programmes including BBC’s Newsnight, Channel 4’s Powerhouse and multiple election programmes. He has since written for several major publications including The Times, The Independent, The Observer and many more. As well as this, Peter has contributed to multiple books and leaflets regarding politics and public affairs. He has also worked as a consultant on public opinion research for several major organisations such as The Bank of England and the Foreign Office. While operating as the Political Analyst of the BBC Newsnight current affairs programme, he was approached by YouGov, a British international Internet-based market research and data analytics firm. He spent over 15 years working at YouGov as both the Chairman and then the President.
Currently, Peter regularly writes articles for The Guardian based on politics. He is well recognised as a journalist and has been for an extended period evidenced by his Journalist of the year award which he won at the British Press Awards in 1978 as well as receiving a Special Recognition Award from the Political Studies Association in 2011. More recently, he has been the chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society and NVCO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations). Peter has also had involvements in other charities like Action on Smoking and Health, the National Literacy Trust and several more. Throughout his career, Peter has authored some of his own books. One is ‘Democracy: 1000 Years in Pursuit of British Liberty’ which details the development of British democracy over time.
