Having appeared on all of Britain’s major and Radio networks, Paul Heiney has earnt himself an esteemed title within the broadcasting industry. Having a radio and television career spanning over 30 years, Paul has turned his hand to a number of different roles and presenting jobs whilst capturing the hearts of the general public.
Paul began his career in broadcasting as one of the founder’s of BBC Radio Humberside. The show that he presented was called Scunsbygookington and reflected key towns in the Humberside region such as Scunthorpe, Goole, Grimsby, Kingston-Upon-Hull and Bridlington. It included varied content such as music, chats and current affairs.
This initial embark into the world of broadcasting opened up many doors for Paul. He went on to be offered many other presenting jobs due to the success of his previous show. In 1974 he took on the title of a reporter for the Radio 1 show Newsbeat, where he reported for two years. Then in 1976, Paul accepted the role of a reporter on the Radio 4’s Today Programme, where he reported for another two years. Then in 1983, he got a presenting job, presenting the Radio 4 programme You And Yours.
After all his successful roles in the land of Radio, Paul made his Television debut in 1978 on the programme That’s Life!, featuring from 1978 to 1982. Since that first debut, Paul has had continual success with his Television career. Paul has since gone on to work for BBC One’s esteemed Watchdog and ITV Countryfile. In 2011 he featured alongside Melanie Sykes on the Geneology programme called Missing Millions.
Alongside his Television and Radio career, Paul also has a strong passion for both farming and sailing. In 1990 Paul brought his own farm, where he performed traditional farming. He later sold his farm and went on to follow his passion for sailing. In 2005 Paul took part in a single-handed transatlantic OSTAR race, turning his hand to writing in the process when he wrote the Last Man Across The Atlantic documenting his experience. Paul was also given the opportunity to present A Victorian Summer, a programme about traditional farming, to enrich his farming passion.
