Paolo Petrocelli

Paolo Petrocelli is an internationally recognised cultural leader, academic and performing arts executive, widely admired for his innovative approach to cultural diplomacy and for shaping the global performing arts landscape. He is currently the head of Dubai Opera, where he is driving the venue’s vision as a leading cultural destination. Beyond his leadership roles, he is also a TEDx speaker whose talks explore the power of culture and music as tools for connection and diplomacy. His reputation extends beyond management to thought leadership, with recognition from governments, institutions and international organisations for his contributions to culture and intercultural exchange.

His early path combined rigorous academic study with artistic training. Petrocelli holds a doctorate in cultural economics from IULM University of Milan and an Executive MBA from SDA Bocconi School of Management. Alongside these, he studied music extensively, graduating in violin performance from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome and earning degrees in literature, musicology, and music from universities in Rome and London. Professionally, his formative years were shaped by roles at leading institutions, including the Rome Opera House, the Royal Opera House Muscat, the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation, and IMG Artists. These positions allowed him to develop expertise in artistic planning, institutional relations and international development, and to gain a network of collaborations across Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Among his most notable achievements is the founding of EMMA for Peace, a global organisation dedicated to music diplomacy, through which he has forged projects uniting musicians, cultural institutions and policymakers. He has co-founded Opera for Peace and supported youth initiatives for UNESCO, underlining his commitment to empowering the next generation. His leadership has been recognised with prestigious honours: he was the first cultural manager included in Fortune’s 40 under 40 in Italy, named a European Young Leader, and appointed a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Further accolades have come from the Middle East, where he has been listed among the most creative and influential personalities in the region and awarded a UAE Golden Visa. In 2025, Italy bestowed upon him the title of Knight of the Order of Merit for his impact in cultural diplomacy.
