This resulted in the creation of the five ways to well-being which he devised together at the centre along with others.
Impressively as part of nef, Nic won the ‘Betterment of the Human Condition’ award in 2007 for their work on the Happy Planet Index. Due to his pioneering research, Nick holds various advisory positions and is a regular public speaker. The UK Government’s Foresight Project on Mental Capital and Well-being, in 2008, asked nef to assess the inter-disciplinary work of over 400 scientists worldwide. He decided to present his findings and actions similar to the widely known public health saying of “five-a-day”. As a result, he came up with Connect, Take Notice, Be Active, Keep Learning and Give. Nic's work is extremely important as the cost of people getting ill to the UK economy totals around £100 billion per year.
