Michael Hastings, otherwise known as The Lord Hastings of Scarisbrick, has enjoyed a distinguished career pioneering justice, democracy, equity and innovation. Currently the Professor of Leadership at the Stephen R. Covey Leadership Centre at Huntsman Business School, Michael has worked a long and decorated career for the likes of the World Economic Forum, KPMG, the BBC and BT. Utilising his experience in roles such as a Member of the World Economic Forum Global Council on Diversity & Talent and Commissioner of the Commission for Racial Equality, Michael is now highly sought after as a passionate keynote speaker, covering all manner of topics from diversity and equity to social and educational themes.
Initially beginning his fruitful career in journalism, Michael’s initial success was gained in his role in the Corporate Affairs Division of the BBC. Appointed the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of the BBC in 2003, Michael has long made it his mission to support good causes, having also been a Trustee of the Vodafone Group Foundation and a NED of the Board for Responsible & Sustainable Business for BT. In 2006, Michael was appointed the Global Head of Citizenship for KPMG International and also represented them as a member of the World Economic Forum Global Corporate Citizenship Committee. Michael has been a prolific supporter of the WEF, having also been a member of the WEF Global Agenda Council on the Next Generation, the WEF Global Agenda Council on the Role of Business and the WEF Agenda Council on The Future of Civil Society.
In addition to his WEF commitments and corporate roles, Michael also spent 15 years as the Chairman of Crime Concern, further demonstrating his interest in social issues. Appointed CBE for his services to crime reduction as the Chair of Crime Concern, Michael has also marked his prominence as a passionate Black activist, name on the list of the 100 Most Influential Black People in Britain and on the list of the 100 Black British Business Leaders. Having worked with the UK Government to provide solutions to urban riots, Michael is also a trusted political figure, awarded a Peerage to the House of Lords in 2005, taking the title of The Lord Hastings of Scarisbrick. In addition, Michael has also served as the Vice President of UNICEF UK and was awarded the UNICEF Award by the UK Chancellor. A renowned figure in international development and corporate responsibility, Michael has also been bestowed with the Stephen R. Covey Leadership Award, as the inaugural recipient, and with a Doctor of Civil Law from the University of Kent.
Having also been the Chairman of Millennial Promise UK and the Chancellor of Regent’s University London, Michael has a distinguished career to his name that serves as an inspiration to many.
