Lee Lawrence is a British inspirational speaker, author, and social change advocate whose work is deeply rooted in his personal experiences with injustice and his commitment to restorative. As a speaker he spreads awareness and educates audiences on this matter.
Lee’s impressive and extremely important work is inspired by his personal experiences. At the age of 11, Lee witnessed a life-altering event when his mother Dorothy ‘Cherry’ Groce, was unlawfully shot by police, sparking the 1985 Brixton uprising. The incident left Cherry with life-changing injuries and resulting in Lee being her full-time carer. After her passing in 2011, Lee campaigned for justice and in 2014 secured an inquest into her death, concluding a public apology and accountability from the metropolitan police and increased awareness about systematic failures in law enforcement. Thanks to a succesful Restorative Justice process, Lee and his siblings were able to heal and reconcile.
Since, Lee has dedicated his career to advocating for greater transparency, accountability, and justice within police and state institutions. Lee has gone on to set up the Cherry Groce Foundation, where he is able to support families affected by state violence, working on community-based healing initiatives, as well as authoring The Louder I Sing, a memoir to his life and his journey toward justice. The book was published in 2020 and delves into themes of systematic racism, resilience, and the fight for accountability within British institutions, as well as the positive power that hope, faith and love can bring in response. In 2020 the book won the Costa Biography Award. He has become a sought-after speaker and has shared his story on TEDx as well as at institutions such as Cambridge University. Beyond speaking and writing, Lee founded Mobility Taxis, a social enterprise providing accessible transportation.

Official Feedback from In-Person & Virtual Events:
"You shared such a brilliant story and I’m glad we got there in the end!! We just wanted to offer another huge congratulations - and give our thanks for putting so much effort into what was such a spectacular event” - Zuora
"… thank you most sincerely for your wonderful contribution on Tuesday. I’ve never had such heartfelt feedback on any class as I’ve received from the students you spoke to. So many of them have spontaneously approached me to say how extraordinary it was to hear what you had to say and how helpful it was in understanding what restorative justice is all about.” -
“That was truly a great event. Thank you Lee for sharing your story, one lesson that resonated with me was how you didn’t give up because ‘the purpose outweighed the challenge’. Very inspirational!" - JP Morgan
I would also like to pass on the many thanks and appreciation messages I’ve received from the audience. This was a webinar that spoke directly to them and myself-in fact it was even more powerful than I expected- even with all the prep. It is also good to look beyond what we are doing here (and there is some intersect of course) into one of the institutions/pillars of our society.” - Deutsche Bank
