Karen Pflug

Karen Pflug has been the Chief Sustainability Officer at Ingka Group since August 2021. With expertise in textiles, sportswear and home furnishing, Karen is an industry specialist whose aim is to reduce impact on the planet through developing high quality, value for money products with great design & process improvements. Knowledgeable in both business and sustainability, Karen is a versatile and credible speaker.

Karen holds a First Class BSc in Textile Design & Design Management attained at the University of Manchester which led her into her first job in New Zealand as a Textile research Scientist. Well-travelled, Karen has worked all over the world in various senior management positions at companies such as Nike, Reebok and Skins. In addition to this, Karen is a Member on the Board of Trustees at The Christchurch Foundation New Zealand Ltd. The charity aims to develop and make Christchurch a better place overall through donations.

A highly motivated individual, Karen has over 25 years of experience in innovation, design and quality for various global brands. An expert in her field, she has continuously proven herself as a strategic manager having led major business transformation throughout her career at some of the world’s biggest brands. Ingka is one of the companies which owns and operates IKEA’s sales channels where Karen currently operates as the CSO (Chief sustainability Officer). Prior to joining Ingka Group, Karen was the Chief Executive Officer of Ikano Insights which was founded by the owner of IKEA and therefore shares many values with the furniture giant.
