Karamo Brown is widely known as a TV and reality star, who is currently the Culture Expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye. Having enjoyed a successful career over a variety of reality TV shows, such as The 5th Wheel, Karamo is a passionate supporter of the LGBT+ community and advocates mental health and HIV education amongst the Black LGBT+ community. Using his prominent platform for his advocacy, Karamo is now booked as a host and speaker to cover topical subjects.
First bursting onto our screens in 2003, Karamo was a contestant on The 5th Wheel. From that point on he has starred in countless other programmes and has also established a reputation as a host. He is perhaps best known for the reality series The Real World: Philadelphia- making headlines as the first openly gay black man on reality TV. He has also been a guest host on Access Hollywood Live, a host on Dr Drew On Call and Are You The One: Second Chances and a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
Outside of presenting and reality tv, Karamo has authored I am Perfectly Designed and Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing and Hope. He has also created MANTL with the Honest Company, a range of personal care products for bald men, and been a segment producer for Own Show. A passionate activist, Karamo co-founded 6in10.org, an initiative that is committed to combatting HIV stigma and provides mental health support to the Black LGBT community. He has also acted as the Health and Wellness Ambassador for the National Black Justice Coalition and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Other activist work includes running the Positively Fearless campaign, an empowering movement for support of the gay and bisexual community. He has also worked alongside President Obama in support of the Obama Foundation and in policies that benefitted the LGBT+ community. He has also shared his time as a Youth Ambassador for the Los Angeles LGBT Centre and been National Co-Chair of the Health Care Voter. In recognition of his commitments throughout his career, Karamo has been named on the Ebony Power 100 List, been nominated for Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Host of a Reality or Competition Programme and claimed the 2018 Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award.
