Ian Woosnam

Legendary professional golfer, Ian Woosnam has been a prolific player of the game for over forty years. One of the ‘Big Five’ European golfers, Ian's reputation on the course is formidable and his career success spans continents and competitions. As an after dinner speaker, Woosnam is able to offer an entertaining insight into the top levels of one of the nation’s favourite sports and share anecdotes from the fairway of historical competitions. In 2017, Ian was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, proving testament to his impact on the sport.

Twenty nine European Tour wins, one Major Masters Tournament win, and two PGA Tour wins, is an enviable trophy cabinet for any elite golfer, and one that Ian has accumulated over four decades, amongst a number of other impressive victories. Since his professional debut in 1976, and first major first place in the 1982 Swiss Open, Ian has risen through the ranks of professional golf with impressive results every step of the way. As a senior he has continued to display spectacular form and has already achieved five European Senior Tour wins.

Equally as formidable in a team as he is an individual sportsman, Ian has appeared on every major world stage as part of a golf team. As a member of the European Ryder Cup team for eight consecutive years, between 1983 and 1997, Ian enjoyed a total of fourteen wins and was trusted as the captain for the 2006 Ryder Cup due to his exemplary leadership abilities and playing record. Other team appearances include the Hennessy Cognac Cup, Seve Trophy and World Cup, of which he won individually and with team Wales in 1987.

Admired for his illustrious playing career, Ian was inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2010, a sporting legend for the country. On three occasions, Ian has also been honoured with the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year Award and in 2007 his commitment to British sports saw him named as an OBE on the New Years Honours List.

Currently, Ian is continuing to reign victorious on the world golf stage, and has begun designing courses to solidify his legacy in the sport and ensure the popularity of golf continues in the future. Additionally, he is highly in demand as an after dinner speaker, due to the plethora of comical and insightful anecdotes he can share on his formidable career.
