During the 1975 to 1976 season, Gordon firmly secured his position as a go-to player and was later offered the role of captain in the following season - Gordon continues to hold the title of youngest captain, at the age of 19.
At the peak of his career, Gordon played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments and later won the 1982 to 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup and 1983 European Super Cup. Whilst playing for Manchester, he secured the 1985 FA Cup Final. Over the course of 635 league games and 50 international caps, Gordon scored 138 goals before retiring at the age of 40, in 1997. The right-side midfielder was also the full-time manager for Coventry FC, managed the Scottish national team, Southampton FC, Celtic FC and Middlesborough FC.
After retiring, Gordon turned his hand to sports analysis, media appearances and as the official FIFA Ambassador for Scotland. The popular pundit is also a hit with fans nationwide, who he gladly meets for pictures.
