Dr. Raphael Olaiya

Dr Raphael Olaiya is a foremost expert in scientific software development, currently serving as a Lead Data Scientist with the NHS. His work involves working with clinical data to find innovative strategies for the improvement of clinical outcomes. Raphael is at the forefront of applying cutting-edge technologies in medical settings, including AI, VR and AR. Recently he took part in the prestigious TEDx Talk: Innovation in Healthcare Panel and is now highly sought after for speaking engagements, where he uses data-science research to talk about well-being and quality of life.

Completing his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine at the University of Liverpool in 2015, Raphael later undertook his MSc in Data Science and Computer Science at UCL. After graduating from medical school, he became a Lecturer of Communication of Clinical Practice for Medical Students at the University of Liverpool. During the same period, he worked as a Medical Product Development Director at Olive Media, responsible for product development and taking medical education e-learning products to market.

Showcasing vast expertise in ground-breaking technologies in the medical field, Raphael is a regular Contributor to VRFocus, offering evaluations and predictions for the future use of VR in healthcare. He has also published a chapter in the educational textbook New Perspective on Virtual and Augmented Reality.

When he’s not pioneering medical software, Raphael can be found presenting CBBC’s Operation Ouch! with doctors Chris, Xand and Ronx to educate the younger generations on the human body. Raphael is also a qualified personal trainer who recognises the importance of quality of life on wellbeing. As such, he uses evidence-based medical research to deliver well-being optimisation seminars, helping people to regain control of their health.
