A retired Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, where he served for two decades and specialised in computer and weapons defence systems and leadership development training, Dewayne transitioned into cybersecurity. He founded Secure Managed Instructional Systems in 2014, a cybersecurity advisory and workforce development firm dedicated to cyber defence, risk management, and resilience. He has worked with clients such as PwC, Kaiser Permanente and US Federal agencies, providing clients with the knowledge, resources, and tools to put on a “Hacker’s Hat,” enabling them to anticipate threats before they become incidents.
Dewayne is the author of two books, 'The Cybersecurity Mindset: A Virtual and Transformational Thinking Mode', and 'Cybersecurity Leadership: How to Develop a Successful Mentality and Win'. He is also a former Forbes Technology Council contributor, writing on topics such as AI’s impact on cybersecurity, leadership and building high-performing cyber teams. He is also the host of the podcast The Chief of Cybersecurity, where he explores how cybersecurity directly impacts everyday digital life.
As a speaker, Dewayne is known for transforming complex statistics and jargon into actionable narratives, designing a roadmap to counter threat actors’ tactics and secure the technology environment.
