Dermot Reeve OBE is a Zimbabwean-born, retired English international cricketer. He has recently managed the Central Districts cricket team in New Zealand. In a career spanning over 15 years, Reeve played 32 times for the England Cricket Team and played domestic cricket for three English counties: Sussex, Warwickshire and Somerset. Now an engaging and inspiring after-dinner speaker, Dermot focuses on his personal achievements, maximising success, leadership and teamwork.
In Reeves’ first season with Sussex County Cricket Club in 1983, he took an impressive 42 wickets at an average of 29.35 runs - a fantastic return in his debut season. Reeves was a number 10 batsmen but was often used as a night watchman. This allowed him to show off his batting capabilities as he scored his maiden century against Surrey at Guildford. As an established all-rounder and after 6 successful seasons with Sussex, Reeves moved to Warwickshire County Cricket Club in 1988.
In 1990, Reeves averaged 54 runs with the bat and scored his highest first-class score of 202 not out against an attack that included cricketing great, Curtly Ambrose. He scored 1,412 runs over the season and in addition to his double century, two more first-class centuries. Reeves captained the county for the first time in 1993 and guided them to a domestic treble just one year later. Warwickshire retained the County Championship and NatWest Trophy the year after, making this one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Having led the side through the glory years, Reeves was named one of the 1996 Wisden Cricketers of the Year, and later that year he was awarded an OBE for his services to cricket.
Internationally, Reeves represented both the England Cricket Team and the Hong Kong national cricket team. He played 29 One Day Internationals in which he took 20 wickets and scored 291 runs. Reeves also played 3 Test Matches, scoring 124 runs with one fifty, and taking 2 wickets. Following his retirement, Reeves soon became the coach at Somerset CCC. More recently he has coached the Central Districts cricket team in New Zealand.
As a cricket speaker, Reeves discusses the highlights of his career and leading the Warwickshire CCC side, which included Trinidadian batting legend, Brian Lara. He also delves into topics such as maximising success and the importance of teamwork as well as performing under the spotlight.
