David Roberts

Swimmer David Roberts is arguably one of the best Paralympic athletes that this country has ever produced. The Welshman who has dabbled as an after dinner speaker and Olympic speaker, has won an impressive eleven Paralympic gold medals across 3 different games, with the desire and dedication to continue onto Rio 2016 despite missing out of London 2012 in controversial fashion. Competing in the S7 category across a whole multitude of distances including the 50m and 100m, David Roberts has also been phenomenally successful at the IPC World Championships, winning eight gold medals since the 2002 championships held in Mar Del Plata. A cerebral palsy sufferer, he also won back to back bronze medals in the 100m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games.

Flag bearer for the Beijing closing ceremony, a prestigious honour awarded only to a select few who, David Roberts controversially missed out on London 2012 after not achieving the required qualifying times due to illness, despite his previous successes. However his intrinsic motivation is admirable, and he has vowed to continue onto Rio 2016 in a bid to achieve more success and ultimately become our countries greatest Paralympian.
