Colin Hendry is a Scottish football player, coach and leading after dinner speaker. Playing as a defender, he began his professional career with Dundee United in 1983, as well as spells at Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Rangers, Coventry City, Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool. Hendry first played for local clubs, Keith of the Scottish Highland Football League, and Islavale - a North Scottish Junior Football League Club, mainly as a striker. He began his full-time professional career in 1983 with Dundee, and in 1987 was transferred to Blackburn Rovers, where he was converted into a defender.
One of his first appearances came in the Full Members Cup final, where he scored the only goal in the 1-0 Wembley win over Charlton Athletic. He played over one-hundred games for Blackburn, before joining Manchester City in 1989, where he was named Player of the Year in the 1989/90 season. Hendry was re-signed for Blackburn by Kenny Danglish in November 1991 for a fee of seven hundred thousand pounds, where he helped them to great success.
In 1998, Hendry got a move back to Scotland to play with Rangers, where he was signed by manager Dick Advocaat for the sum of four million pounds. After his spell at Rangers, Hendry then moved to Coventry City and Bolton Wanderers, as well as Preston North End and Blackpool on loan, before retiring from his playing career. Overall, Hendry played more than five-hundred league games and scored more than forty goals in a playing career spanning twenty years - a remarkable achievement for anyone.
Following on from his retirement, Colin has gone onto delve into a career in management and coaching. With stints as the assistant manager at Boston United and manager at Blackpool and Scottish side, Clyde, Hendry has established an incredible skillset within leadership and mentoring in which he often touches on as a speaker.
