Auma Obama

Auma Obama is widely known for her passionate humanitarian work, acting as a social activist to see a change in the country of Kenya. Predominantly interested in the economic independence of the country, Auma is working with non-profit organisation Sauti Kuu Foundation to help those who are struggling with poverty and pioneering a better future for the citizens of Kenya. Through such work, Auma is also regularly booked as a speaker for a range of public and corporate events, covering topics such as social sustainability, youth education and socio-economic development in passionate keynote speeches.

The half-sister of former president Barack Obama, Auma is best known for being the creator and CEO of the Sauti Kuu Foundation. Sitting at the helm of this non-profit organisation, Auma is working passionately as a social activist to see substantial change in the financial circumstance of orphans who are currently suffering in poverty. She is also well known for her work as a member of the World Future Council and formerly worked as part of the CARE International organisation.

In the early days of her career, Auma was fortunate to secure a place studying at the Heidelberg University in Germany. Upon graduation, she furthered her studies at the University of Bayreuth, where she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy. Upon her graduation, Auma worked temporarily in the UK before relocating back to Kenya where she began work as part of the charity CARE International. As part of this major humanitarian agency, Auma was a pivotal member in providing emergency humanitarian aid and was later inspired to create her won charity, the Sauti Kuu Foundation, which is often referred to as the Auma Obama Foundation.

Auma has also been a member of various boards and organisations. She has been on the board of trustees for the German Reading Foundation and an advisory board member of the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies. She has also been on the Governing Council of the Kilimanjaro Initiative and a patron of the International Storymoja Festival in Kenya. Auma has also been fortunate to publish her own book, titled And Then Life Happens and delivered a TEDx talk titled Opportunities Unlimited- Poverty Is No Excuse. She has also claimed the Prix Courage Award, the 2015 B.A.U.M Award, the 2015 World Human Rights Award and the 2016 Kiwanis Award.

A revered humanitarian, Auma is now also booked as a speaker for a range of corporate events. She has previously attended countless prestigious worldwide events, discussing the importance of humanitarian aid and socio-economic development. She is also sought to speak on youth education and social sustainability, whilst advocating the agendas of her organisation the Sauti Kuu Foundation. Also the creator of the Sauti Kuu Act Now Awards, Auma is working to recognise the achievements of those who are dedicating their work to humanitarian and social aids.
