Dr Audrey Allwood is a leading British Anthropologist, Researcher and Author with a top-class reputation. She is a visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths University of London where she is also an Associate Lecturer. With over 25 years of experience, she is a leading authority on Caribbean migration and legacy in British society. Dr Audrey has held roles across local authorities and services in housing, substances abuse, mental health, and advocacy. She has held senior management and consultancy roles, giving her a wide breadth of experience to draw upon. When booked as a speaker, she blends her exceptional academic background with decades of work within social services, local authorities, and charitable organisations.
In academia, Dr Audrey’s research is particularly focused on well-being, belonging and change management. Booked as a speaker she is able to cover a range of topics including; Windrush and Generations, Mental Health and Well-being, Strategic Planning and Change Management. She is at the intersection of mental health, well-being and diversity. In 2018 she delivered a collaborative project with Goldsmith University on Caribbean Mothering covering intergeneration exchange and social adaptation. Her doctoral research investigating the migration, settlement and integration experience of intergenerational West Indians titled ‘: An Ethnography of Migrant West Indian Elders in Brixton, London’ was published in 2020 by Palgrave Macmillan. In the same year, she contributed to ABC radio’s programme on Caribbean migration in Brixton covering gentrification and social change.
Her work in mental health saw her manage services at MIND where she developed a coaching programme for young homeless people in 2015. The programme was then piloted with Certitude - the national mental health organisation - in a key London area in 2016. She became a certified teacher of Mindful meditation by the Complementary Medical Association. For Croydon Council Foster Carers Dr Audrey developed and delivered Drug Awareness Training Workshops in 2020, she is also invited to speak on Mental Health by local authorities.
Dr Audrey’s academic research has led to her voice being sought in a range of diversity and inclusion programmes, she recently delivered a talk at the Home Office Windrush Day celebration and for Blueprint for All within Black History Month in 2021. She delivered a report for the Croydon BME Forum in 2020 providing recommendations and also worked with Age UK Lambeth to win grants to deliver community engagement projects. Dr Audrey Allwood can deliver talks and provide fascinating insights on a range of topics around diversity and mental health.
