Alun Wyn Jones

Alun Wyn Jones OBE is a Welsh rugby icon and the world’s most-capped rugby union player, with an extraordinary 158 caps for Wales and 12 British & Irish Lions test appearances. Alun's international career truly took off when he earned his first cap for Wales in 2006. In 2008, he was a key member of the Welsh squad that won the Six Nations Grand Slam. He would repeat this success in 2012 and 2019, becoming one of only seven Welsh players to achieve three Grand Slam victories. His incredible consistency and leadership were recognised when he was appointed captain of Wales in 2017, a role in which he thrived. In 2019, Alun was named Six Nations Player of the Championship, further solidifying his status as one of the greatest players in the sport’s history.

Alun’s achievements extend beyond national honours. He is one of only four players to have been selected for four British & Irish Lions tours, making him a key figure in the Lions’ history. In 2013, Alun captained the British & Irish Lions to a series victory over Australia, becoming the first substitute captain to lead the team to a series win in over a century. His leadership was further cemented when he captained the Lions for the entirety of their 2021 tour of South Africa, showcasing his enduring influence and stature in the game. Among his many accolades, Alun was awarded an OBE in 2020 for his services to rugby.
