Adele Roberts is a renowned British broadcaster and reality TV personality known for her time presenting on BBC Radio 1. With her vast career, Adele has become a trusted voice across the UK, speaking openly about her experiences and encouraging honest discussions. Identifying openly as bisexual, she is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and was named role model of the year at the British LGBT Awards. Using her platform to highlight inclusion, visibility, and representation, Adele has broken barriers as the first Black woman to host the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show.
Adele gained her first experience in radio broadcasting with the Leeds Student Radio, hosting a weekly mix show, where she found her passion for presenting. Joining Rock FM in 2002 as host of the weekly 'Smooth Grooves Show', she entered the world of professional presenting. Soon after, in 2006, Adele joined Galaxy radio (now known as Capital) in Leeds, followed by achieving her long-term aspiration of working at BBC Radio 1xtra. In 2015, she established herself as a dynamic and sought-after presenter and became the host of BBC Radio 1's Breakfast show, while also providing regular cover for 'The Live Lounge'. Adele further progressed to present Radio 1's Weekend Breakfast Show, along with regularly providing coverage for BBC Sport, such as the London Marathon.
Her passion for LGBTQ+ rights has led her to present the documentary 'Coming Out' for BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, where she shared moving coming out stories, leading to multiple nominations at the LGBT Awards and the Diva Awards. In addition to her broadcasting work, Adele has worked to spread awareness around cancer after receiving her life-changing diagnosis of bowel cancer in 2021. Following successful treatment in 2022 and being announced cancer-free, she turned to educating others across the globe on the illness. As a passionate runner, she raised over 10k by running 7 marathons for Cancer Research UK, becoming the first woman to do so with a stoma bag and earning the Guinness World Record for being the fastest woman to complete the London Marathon with a stoma bag.
Continuing to use her platform to spread awareness, Adele authored 'Personal Best: From Rock Bottom to the Top of the World' to share her journey through resilience to recovery. Her inspirational career has seen her appear across TV with her debut being on season 3 of 'Big Brother' in 2002, followed by entering the jungle in 2019 as a campmate on 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'. In 2020, Adele won 'Celebrity Coach Trip' alongside her girlfriend, Kate Holderness, followed by being a leading competitor on 'Dancing on Ice' in 2024. Working to encourage honest and open discussions around health, she has been featured as a guest speaker on 'Good Morning Britain', 'Lorraine' and 'Loose Women', to name a few. Her ability to combine humour with real-life experience allows her to deliver impactful talks on overcoming adversity and embracing identity, making her a powerful keynote speaker and host.
