Morgan McSweeney

Morgan McSweeney is an Irish political strategist, campaign architect and keynote speaker recognised as one of the most influential figures behind modern British politics. Best known for helping engineer the Labour Party's return to government, Morgan rose from grassroots campaigning to become Campaign Director of the Labour Party and later Downing Street Chief of Staff. Widely credited with helping transform Labour from a divided opposition into a disciplined, election-winning organisation, he played a pivotal role in securing the party's landslide victory at the 2024 General Election. Born in Macroom, County Cork, Ireland, Morgan moved to London as a teenager and initially worked on building sites before pursuing higher education. After spending time travelling and living abroad, including periods in California and Israel, he returned to the UK and completed a degree in Politics and Marketing at Middlesex University. Motivated by his support for the Good Friday Agreement, he joined the Labour Party in 1997 and began developing the practical campaigning skills that would define his career. Starting in junior party roles, he steadily built a reputation as an effective organiser and strategist, helping to deliver successful local election campaigns and playing an important role in Labour's efforts to defeat the British National Party in Barking and Dagenham.

In 2017, he became Director of Labour Together, helping create a long-term strategy for Labour's return to power. He later managed Keir Starmer's successful Labour leadership campaign in 2020 before serving as Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition. In 2021, he was appointed Campaign Director of the Labour Party, overseeing the political and electoral strategy that ultimately delivered Labour's decisive victory in the 2024 General Election. Following the election, Morgan became Head of Political Strategy at Downing Street before being appointed Downing Street Chief of Staff. His influence was recognised when he was ranked number one on the New Statesman Left Power List in 2024, highlighting his position as one of the most powerful and respected political operators in the United Kingdom.
