Justine Greening is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Putney from 2005 to 2019. Justine was part of the Conservative government cabinet for multiple years in positions including Minister for Women and Equalities, Secretary of State for Education and Transport. Drawing on her experience as a former politician and leader of various high-profile government departments, Justine is well equipped to speak about leadership, equality of opportunity and reshaping organisations and economies for the better. Justine also speaks on the uncertain world of geopolitics and geoeconomics which she gained a wealth of knowledge from in her time at International Development.
After studying a degree in Business Economics and Accounting, Justine obtained an MBA from London Business School. Justine worked in accounting as a finance manager at Centrica plc before becoming an MP. When elected as an MP, Justine was the youngest female Conservative MP in the House of Commons until 2009. Appointed as Secretary of State for International Development in 2012, Justine worked on initiatives to improve economic and gender equality overseas.
During her time as Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities from 2016 to 2018, Justine’s focus was social mobility. Her work involved investing in and improving education across the UK by targeting areas with low social mobility and enhancing early careers support for young adults making the leap from education into work.
Justine resigned from government in January 2018 after a cabinet reshuffle. She continues her work in social mobility as Founder & Chair of The Purpose Coalition campaign. The Purpose Coalition brings together business leaders, public sector leaders, educators and leading policymakers to ensure there are opportunities for everyone around the UK. In 2024, Justine returned to her alma mater University of Southampton as Chancellor where she was awarded with an honorary doctorate a year earlier. Sharing her expertise, Justine hosts the podcast Leading With Purpose which explores businesses breaking down barriers to opportunity in the UK.
Today, Justine is a leading commentator and keynote speaker, giving valuable insights into the UK economy and how collaboration between sectors can deliver a fairer future for everyone. She believes that profit and purpose are strongly linked and that business plays a key role in society by boosting opportunity and driving levelling up. Justine’s extensive work in social mobility and equality combined with her experience in politics and business makes her a powerful keynote speaker for events.
